Accessibility
This page describes which accessibility features the Toolkit provides and which checks remain your responsibility when you build an application with it.
What the Toolkit provides
Toolkit components include the following accessibility support. Your application is still responsible for labels, content, the contrast of custom styles, and testing with assistive technology.
- High Contrast theme — optimized for Windows high contrast modes.
- Semantic ARIA — components implement ARIA roles, states, and properties.
- Focus management — visible focus indicators and accessible interaction patterns.
- Zoom and reflow — design your own layout so it reflows at high zoom levels.
Keyboard navigation
Keyboard interactions vary across components. The shortcuts below are commonly used navigation patterns.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab | Move to the next element |
| Shift + Tab | Move to the previous element |
| Enter | Activate the focused item |
| Space | Trigger an action |
| Esc | Close a popup, dialog, or menu |
| ↑ | Move to the previous item |
| ↓ | Move to the next item |
Screen reader compatibility
The Toolkit is smoke-tested with the following screen readers. See the repository for the screen-reader smoke-test procedure.
